Retaining Wall Installation Process
Built correctly from the ground up — no rushed work or shortcuts.
Site Prep and Excavation
We clear the area, excavate as needed, and prepare the site based on the wall layout, grade, and soil conditions.
Forming and Reinforcement
We set the forms and install reinforcement to give the wall the strength it needs to handle soil pressure and long-term use.
Layout and Wall Planning
Next, we mark the wall location, determine the height and alignment, and plan for drainage and structural support.
Pour and Build the Wall
We place the concrete, form the wall to the correct dimensions, and make sure everything is straight, secure, and properly shaped.
Footing and Base Preparation
We prepare a solid footing or base to support the wall and help prevent shifting, settling, or movement over time.
Drainage, Cleanup, and Final Touches
We add drainage measures as needed, clean up the site, and leave the wall ready for curing and the surrounding area to be finished.

Ryan and his crew removed our retaining wall and put in a new (and very improved) wall.
They did an amazing job and we couldn’t be happier with their work and timeliness. They showed up everyday they said they would and on time (which is kind of rare these days). We had several neighbors come over hours after they left and comment on how nice our new retaining wall looked! Not only did they do a great job, but they are really kind people. I would recommend them to anyone!

High-strength concrete sourced from trusted local suppliers to ensure durability, structural integrity, and long-term performance.
Benefits of a Professionally Installed Retaining Wall
A professionally built retaining wall does more than hold back soil. It helps solve grade changes, support drainage, and make difficult areas of the property more functional and easier to use. When planned and installed correctly, a retaining wall adds structure, improves how the space works, and creates long-term support for the surrounding landscape.

frequently asked questions
How tall can a retaining wall be without a permit?
Permit requirements vary by city, but most municipalities require a permit for walls over 4 feet tall (measured from the lowest grade on the downhill side). Walls under 4 feet typically don’t require a permit, though it’s always best to check with your city before starting.
What type of retaining walls do you offer?
We specialize in concrete retaining walls, including Symons Form Walls, which are engineered, reinforced concrete walls ideal for both residential and commercial projects. Symons Form Walls are built with steel-reinforced panels that allow for tall, durable walls while minimizing cracking and movement. They are perfect for steep slopes, terraces, and areas needing extra structural support.
Can retaining walls be built on steep slopes?
Yes. Retaining walls are ideal for managing steep or uneven terrain, making it safe and functional for landscaping, patios, or gardens.
Do retaining walls require drainage?
Yes. Proper drainage is essential to prevent water buildup behind the wall. We include drainage solutions to ensure stability and long-term performance.
How long does it take to build a retaining wall?
Timing depends on the size, height, and complexity of the wall, as well as site conditions. Most residential walls can be completed within a few days to a week.
What factors determine the cost of a retaining wall?
Costs depend on wall height, length, site conditions, soil type, and the materials used. Decorative finishes and additional drainage or reinforcement can also affect pricing. We provide detailed estimates based on your specific property and project needs.
Can a retaining wall help prevent foundation or basement water issues?
Yes. Properly designed retaining walls with drainage can redirect water away from your home, reducing the risk of foundation damage, soil erosion, and basement flooding.
